In kindergarten, we had an "author visit" via Skype today. We took part in the "Skype in the classroom" program (https://education.skype.com) to have J.C. Phillipps join us in the common kindergarten area to discuss her latest book, her methods of illustrating and even take us on a little tour of her house! Julie read one of her stories, and then answered questions while discussing/modeling how she uses collages to create her work. It was a great experience for the kids who were able to ask questions and watch J.C. as she created a bit of artwork right before their eyes!
KD has been using J.C. as the focus of our author study, and we will now take a cue from her and use her techniques in a cross curricular activity tying to our thematic study of the ocean. We've also requested, and Mrs. Oeth has agreed, to have some of Julie's books ordered and in our LS library.
